Practicum is one of the most important experiences a college student will undergo in his or her college years. It provides a training ground for future employment, more so if the student takes a job that is related to his or her course. The student takes some responsibility in the assigned tasks to him or her and is expected to produce quality outputs that adhere to the standards of the company/agency that the student is working for.
The student should be serious about his or her practicum since this will hone him or her in dealing with the corporate world.

What do your employers want from you? Surely, you have graduated with a highest degree and your academics are above average. But is this enough? What employers are looking for is demonstration of skills; in specific, the general skills used in a wide range of jobs. So before you go to your next job interview, assess or make a list of your skils first. Here are some ides that might be helpful.
- working by yourself;
- scheduling of time successfully;
- working under stress and to deadlines;
- considering originally and imaginatively;
- taking the initiative;
- speak about ideas and thoughts verbally and in writing;
- becoming accustomed to diverse circumstances;

Fortune, fate, luck and destiny—these are a few of the things you need when it comes to job hunting and interviews. Of course you cannot depend only on these. Job hunting calls for competition and this cannot only be based on luck and the like.
You have to know the basics of the company you are applying for. If the HR manager asks you, “what do you know about our company?” Yes, they ask these types of questions, and of course, knowing the “right” answer is a plus. Do your homework and that job vacancy is yours to fill.

The most important thing to remember when applying for a job is to bring an updated copy of your resume. Companies do require their applicants to bring one for filing purposes as some companies keep rejected resumes in their “active files”.
The resume should include the basics about your background (i.e. your name, address, contact numbers etc.) and you can also include your skills, specializations and you work experience. With skills and specializations included in your resume, you can flaunt your knacks that will perhaps, impress your employer.

The current status of the employment market is quite alarming with unemployment at their lowest levels in 25 years with millions out of jobs. the alarming thing is that even with unemployment benefits people who have lost jobs are running out of options with their insurance drying up without them getting a new job. Desperation has many looking for jobs, any jobs and anybody who has not yet lost their jobs are under stress of being the next one on the chopping block. The best thing to do, even with unemployment insurance is to get down to looking for your next job without considering your back-up plan which should last till you get a job. Relying totally in your insurance may not be enough if you fail to find a new job for it does have its limits and it will run out. Settle for any jobs for the mean time so you don’t get too distanced to working and keep tabs on current trends so you know what jobs are in and what are out.

Well, the economy is one for the many firms declaring bankruptcy and mass lay-offs due to the ever dipping economy isn’t good at all. Next, you might be aiming too high for a first job, so take a step back and look at your strategy.
Career planning should begin with your first job though it is very difficult, but you’ll get there for sure. Don’t be discouraged by failure and try to use a failed application as a motivating factor. Sometimes tenacity and persistence can make a difference, enough to convince even the hardiest employers so make it show and take it up a notch. Show that you are willing to take a lesser job for the experience for many firms base hiring strategies on such details. Make yourself stand out from the rest (not too much), imagine the guy who asks a simple question and lands a job, that can be you in his shoes so prepare for battle.

There are a lot of advertising graduates looking for a decent job all over the world. Being new to the corporate jungle, they often make mistakes in their approach as a job applicant, which could have been avoided if they had taken steps and prepared for it. Some of these are common mistakes while others are rather not so obvious. To be able to land your dream job as a copywriter or an art director you should take note of a few things like a precise cover letter. You should never over do or cover too much of yourself in the cover letter. It should be short but precise. Pointing out only the necessary things. And most importantly, it should be proof read and well written.

We are all well aware of the processes of traditional job hunting. It usually starts with writing your resume. And then you mail it or email it to a number of potential employers. You can also post your resume on job sites like Hotjobs and JobsDb. And then the process ends with………….. Waiting. Waiting for the mail to arrive or the phone to ring. If that time ever comes, just then you’ll get the chance to be scheduled for an interview. Usually with an assistant or lower level HR officer. Or just maybe by the ASSISTANT manager or something like that. In the unfortunate event that you do not receive any calls. You go through the whole proccess again. And send more resumes again. You may end up landing a job but… after all the waiting, long months of waiting and frustration and discouragement. And the job that you have landed on might not be the job that you applied for , instead the vacant job that the employers needed to fill up. How great it is, Right? WRONG. There is another way, in fact a better way and a lot faster way to get the job that you want… that is through alternative job hunting. You will have a totally different approach and starting point. The alternative job hunting strategy concentrates solely on what it will take to get in front of the person who could be your future supervisor. It also focuses more on how to represent yourself as the most productive member of the team. In using this strategy, put simply, you can be flooded with the best job offers in as fast as two weeks.
